Trying to know somebody from what they post online, is like thinking you know a book just by looking at it’s cover, yet there is a whole story you haven’t even read yet.

Social media can be toxic if we don’t make ourselves aware of what we are looking at, absorbing and how it makes us feel.

According to a study done by FLURRY, the average US adult can spend up to 5 hours a day on their mobile phones. 50% of this time is spent on social apps, messaging and other various forms of media entertainment.

We tend to compare our lives to the lives of people we see and look up to online. It is so easy to watch the profile of someone who inspires you and to feel like you know their life and how they live.

BE INSPIRED. But don’t feel like you know their life or try to imitate their lives. I believe almost nobody posts their real life online. What we post are ‘highlights’, almost like a show reel for everyone to see and we cut out the parts which we feel are most irrelevant. But real life is so much more important. The pieces which are deemed not relevant enough to go online, are usually what make up our lives and in the big scheme of things, they are the important moments.  My bedroom is my comfort zone, dressing room and best friend all in one.

It is so important to make your bedroom feel as comfortable and safe as you can. The average human will spend one third of their lives asleep, and this isn’t including all those little naps!

I decided my little room needed a revamp so I decided to make the trek to Ikea! Armed with not much money and no real idea of what I actually wanted/needed!

My bed frame was only £90 which is amazing for the quality of it! Its a light, cute aluminium design and was extremely easy to build! As a petite 5’2 woman, I was worried I would struggle to build this. I can’t say it was easy but it’s up and still standing!

I looked forever for inspiration for a feature above my bed but found nothing that I felt I could cope with doing alone! I ended up creating this simple, blissful curtain detail! It creates the perfect ambient lighting especially when partnered up with a few candles.

The LED lights were £6, make sure if you do a similar design that the lights are LED so they don’t heat up and leave you with a pile of ashes instead of a bedroom!

The curtain pole was under £10 and the thin voile curtain was £4. I am so in love with this feature. It’s so simple but elegant!

Finally I brought a little light pink blanket to run along the bottom of my bed. This was a steal for £4. It is so light and perfect for the spring/summer evenings spent lay on my bed!

Read me a story,
tuck me in tight,
say a sweet prayer
and kiss me goodnight.

Bed Time Bliss.

When I was a young girl the world was a magical place, full of fun, love and most of all it was safe.

I wanted to be a ballerina, an author, an archeologist, a pop star, a rally driver, a hero in any sort of career. I wanted to be married, have babies and puppies.

When I hit 18 I realised sadly it was very likely that none of these careers would be for me. Life had other plans for me. Life put me in situations that felt like the darkest depths that a human could go to, life made me feel worthless and life tested my soul to the very limits it could reach.

As a human once you reach the very darkest point that anyone could physically reach, you have no where left to go. Describing this point in my life is unexplainable, the pain and the black is too much. It is like reaching the core of the earth a pitch black nothing, some people describe it as being a wall but the word wall, implies there is something on the other side. Which there was not. It was nothing a pure black never ending. If you have ever experienced deep deep depression you will understand the pain and helplessness that comes along with it.

The world isn’t here to make you feel good, and other people aren’t here to make you feel good. You have to learn about yourself, take time out to research different things, do activities you’ve never done and find what really makes your heart happy.

The Raw Pain of Anxiety & 5 Steps to Ease it.

Screen Shot 2017-03-30 at 20.59.33

Yesterday morning I woke up crying. My little heart was breaking and I had no idea why. I was inconsolable, I had thousands of thoughts going round my brain and I felt suffocated. Every small problem seemed to grow at a rapid rate.

I have very few people in my life who I can openly talk about my anxiety to. But for me this is all I need. Yet it can be difficult to speak about anxiety to someone who has never experienced mental health issues. If someone were to see you had been stabbed, they would be able to understand the physical pain you are going through, yet mental pain isn’t visible. It’s hard for people to understand or grasp someone’s mental pain when they themselves have never experienced it.

It is almost impossible to get rid of anxiety instantly. But here are a few tips that could ease the pain and help you focus.

CUDDLE! If you are lucky enough to be near someone you love when you get anxiety, cuddle them. Nothing in the world beats a cuddle off your mum or dad, whether you’re a 6 foot guy or 50-year-old woman. Cuddles are the best. Explain to your mum/dad, boyfriend/girlfriend how you are feeling and don’t be embarrassed to be honest. Make sure you have at least one person in your life who you can really talk to. If you do not feel that you have anyone that you can confide in please feel free to message me on Facebook/Twitter.

BREATHE! This one is simple. Just breathe. It is amazing how taking time to stop and breathe will help you. Focus on just feeling your chest rise and fall.

WRITE! Get a small notepad and pen that fit in your bag, for when you feel anxiety coming on. Take this out and write down the things that are bothering you and write down suggestions of how you can solve this. By just writing down your thoughts and feelings, this helps you gain a slight clarity in all the fog that anxiety clogs your brain up with. This is amazing for when you feel anxious when you’re away from home.

LOVE YOURSELF! Give yourself the TLC it deserves. If you aren’t looking after yourself, your body will soon start to get tired and run down. Getting at least 7 hours sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your body! Stay away from caffeine, switch up your coffees with decaf and try caffeine free fizzy drinks. Make investments for yourself, there is nothing like new pyjamas, candles, films, blankets. This goes without saying that this applies to males too, my boyfriend loves nothing more than candles, blankets and a good film!

SEE A DOCTOR! You should never feel that because you aren’t physically unwell that the doctors won’t be able to help you. I have been seeing many doctors over the years for a range of mental health issues! They have never dismissed me or my problems. I even went to the doctors once when I was suffering with horrific nightmares, they were making me petrified to go to sleep. When I sat in the seat at the doctors I instantly felt ashamed and embarrassed. Yet as soon as I started talking, he listened to me and reassured me that I wasn’t being silly. He even spoke to me about when he was younger and the nightmares he suffered from. Just remember, doctors are humans too, and they do their job because they want to help you.

Once I’m out of the depths of anxiety, I always stop and remind myself how beautiful life is, how strong my body and mind are and how alive I feel.

Sometimes we have to stop and appreciate our souls, they carry us through some rough times.

The Raw Pain of Anxiety & 5 Steps to Ease it.

Why you Should NOT Wish Away the Week.

My Facebook is always full of posts about the weekend (Not the singer, although he does feature heavily on my newsfeed!) No i mean posts along the lines of “Friday can’t come quick enough”, “Can’t wait for the weekend” & “Is it Friday yet?”

Sooooo, if you live for at least another 50 years, you have 18250 days left.

18250 days  – 5200 weekends days =  13050 week days.

This is the number of days you would be wishing away if all you ever appreciate is the weekend. Life is tough and although the weekend is a blessing to most of us in a 9-5 job, we have to stop and realise each day is a blessing.

This morning on my way to work I drove past a horrific car accident. Being as inquisitive and curious I am, I couldn’t help but look. I then saw the air ambulance and I felt my heart drop. Instantly my imagination went into overdrive. I was thinking about the person being airlifted to hospital. What thoughts would be going through his head right now? He might have woken up this morning, annoyed that it’s still only Wednesday, maybe irritated that he didn’t have time to get a coffee before work. This human could now be wishing he had woken up, given his partner a love, looked out of the window at the clear blue sky, appreciated his health and that he has a job to help him provide for his family.

Don’t wish your days away. Take moments to breathe, appreciate everything and tell your favourite people how much you love them. Use your time to stop and think about everything you love in your life, right down to the smallest things.

Use these days as opportunities to do things you have always wanted to, read new books, learn new hobbies, go exploring etc.

I’m not saying don’t look forward to the weekend but look forward to everyday.

Friday will always be there waiting for you.
